Week of Jan. 9-13

What an exciting week it has been so far, we have survived our first tornado! Sorry I have been slacking on updating the blog recently but my new year's resolution is to get better about updating at the beginning of every week.

In Math we are continuing with sorting. This week we are sorting magazine pictures with similar attributes.

In Science we are learning about motion and the different ways objects can move.

In Reading our new sight words are of, was, and saw. Our word family is -ug. We are reading the book The Mitten all week and working on retelling. Look for students to bring home their own mitten and animal puppets and ask them to retell the story to you.

In Writing we are working on writing our own New Year's resolutions as well as stories about ourselves. We are focusing on using our neatest handwriting and making sure we have spaces between all of our words. I have seen SO much improvement in the students writing in the past month, I can tell a lot of you are working with them at home. Keep up the great work!

In Social Studies we are finishing up learning about Christopher Columbus, ask your child where he was from and where he was trying to go. In honor of the upcoming holiday we are also learning about Martin Luther King Jr. and his importance. We are going to write our own "I have a dream" speech.

Homework:
Keep up reading and practice blue sight words.

Events this Week:
Friday- We are supporting our local football team in the playoffs with Texans Day. Wear your favorite Texans shirt or red/blue to show your support!
